“Photography is an art of observation. It has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” – Elliott Erwitt
Editing pictures is an important part when it comes to photography. Every photographer edits their pictures in their own style. Now here is my style of editing pictures-
1- What software/app should I use?
Although you can use any editing software you like, you have to make sure that the software has every essential editing tool. Now by editing tools, I don’t mean creating collages or adding stickers to your photographs. I mean editing tools which allow you to adjust the exposure, contrast, saturation, sharpness and many other features of your pictures. I prefer using ‘VSCO’ which is an app that includes all the essential features you need. Its great for editing your Instagram photos too. The most important editing tools are free although you will have to pay for getting additional filters. I have not paid for additional filters as there are a good number of filters which are available for free.
2- Which filter should I use to edit my pictures?
Now this step totally depends on what you want. You will have to choose a filter which suits your photos the most. For example if you want your picture to have a little greyish look but not completely black and white, you can use the ‘HB2’ filter (Available in the VSCO app for free). The filter you choose should give your photo a natural look so choose wisely.
3- How do I use these editing tools(VSCO)?
Well this may be a little tricky at first but you will surely get a hang of it. Now this is how to make your picture look perfect. If your picture is to dark due to the direction of light, you can always increase the exposure to the right level. Then obviously if the picture is to bright you can decrease the exposure. Specifically in VSCO, there so much to explore, you can increase vignette, clarity, shadows, highlights and a lot more.
VSCO also has a great camera which allows you to modify some features while clicking your pictures.
